Much anticipated Sun Air Jets opening celebrates Van Nuys hangar
With much fanfare, Sun Air Jets was finally able to open its newest Van Nuys hangar. It can accommodate aircraft up to Global 7500 and the on site Part 145 repair station works on Citations up to Gulfstreams.
Sun Air Jets president and CEO Brian Counsil.

Camarillo, California-headquartered Part 135 operator Sun Air Jets held a grand opening event of its newest hangar space at Van Nuys airport on 23 September, 2022 in conjunction with Aeroplex Group Partners, who helped secure the location. Around 150 airport executives, industry colleagues, city employees and leadership plus Sun Air Jets associates joined in the celebration.

The new space has been open for business since October 2021, but the celebration was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. This new facility more than doubles the size of Sun Air Jets' footprint of available space and presence in Van Nuys. The two adjoining hangars that each have attached private terminal and office facilities are located in the northwest corner of the airport.

“We're thrilled to be able to showcase our newest expansion at the Van Nuys airport, adding an additional 66,000 sq ft of hangar space bringing our total footprint here to over 100,000 sq ft,” says director of aircraft management Justin Sherrill. “Having a space of this size makes Sun Air Jets one of the largest hangar facilities in Van Nuys and sets us up for continued expansion of our managed fleet and services at one of the busiest private aviation airports in the world. The design of the facility is based on our clients' needs, with a focus on privacy and ease of access for aircraft owners and passengers to be able to drive right up to their aircraft via a private gate out of sight of the general public. Both hangars can accommodate aircraft as large as a Global 7500, and our Part 145 repair station located on site performs maintenance on a variety of aircraft ranging from Citations to Gulfstreams.”

Designed to offer a superior level of luxury and sophistication, the Van Nuys facilities offer private offices, lounges, conference meeting rooms, gated guest parking and numerous other amenities necessary to meet today's evolving business aviation needs. The new facility also meets the state's strict environmental green building standards and includes a solar roof-top feed-in tariff system that will assist the Los Angeles World Airports' environmentally sustainable energy programme.

The additional hangars and terminal facility are now open and available for managed aircraft clients.
