Signature Aviation has officially opened its private aviation terminal at Birmingham airport in the UK with a grand opening ceremony. The Worshipful Mayor of Solihull counsellor Ken Meeson, along with Signature Birmingham general manager Emma Woodcraft and Signature EMEA managing director John-Angus Smith, cut the ribbon in front of invited guests including customers, charter brokers, representatives from Birmingham airport, suppliers associated with the construction and fit-out of the new terminal and other businesses from the local community in Solihull.

The opening marks the full revival of Signature Birmingham following a flood affecting its previous 1930s era terminal building in March 2018. Construction of the new terminal, delayed by the Covid pandemic, commenced in late 2021 and lasted 12 weeks, with interior fit and finishing taking an additional four weeks. The terminal became operational in Spring 2022.

“We are thrilled to have a facility to be proud of and, even though we have only been operational for a short while, the feedback from our customers has been amazing,” says Woodcraft.

The entirely new site represents Birmingham's newest and best-appointed FBO facility, featuring a 222 sqm building replete with traveller lounge space, refreshment area and a passenger security screening checkpoint. The terminal also includes a dedicated pilots lounge and an electric vehicle charging station. Furthermore, Signature Birmingham will continue to offer the consistent, expert line service for which it is renowned for visiting aircraft, along with substantial parking capacity for general aviation aircraft.

“This facility re-establishes our Birmingham operation as a key part of our network of 226 global locations, and the opening solidifies our ongoing commitment to our customers and to Birmingham airport as we look to the future,” says Smith. “We are thankful for the support of Birmingham Airport Ltd in helping to re-establish Signature's presence here.”

“The newly built FBO in Birmingham reflects the resilience of our team and the importance of this key strategic location within the UK and Signature Aviation network,” adds area director UK Daniel Myles. “General aviation continues to be a commercial driver to both the airport and the Birmingham area, and we look forward to welcoming customers to our new FBO on their next visit through Birmingham.”
