San Bernardino airport enjoys a year of growth
As San Bernardino International airport saw continued growth in 2021, it finds the trend toward a greater mix of commercial and corporate aircraft is accelerated.
60 miles east of Los Angeles and within 30 minutes of more than two million people, the former Norton Air Force Base was converted to civilian use in 1992.

San Bernardino International airport in California realised significant growth in 2021, including double-digit increases in corporate aircraft, international flights and air cargo activity, along with continued growth in commercial aircraft operations. The shifting fleet mix has accelerated an already growing trend toward commercial and corporate aircraft in recent years.

In 2021, corporate aircraft reached 8,272 flights, representing a 20 per cent increase over the previous year, and 406 international flights versus a previous high of 243 flights in 2018. Commercial aircraft flight activity increased 6 per cent, despite low activity by the US Forest Service relative to previous years. Air cargo activity continued its ascent for a fifth straight year, with SBD ranking in the top 35 cargo airports in the US last year.

"SBD is the ideal location for aviation businesses seeking a strategic alternative in southern California," says director of aviation Mark Gibbs.

Chosen by cargo giants for its proximity to the estimated 4.7 million consumers in southern California's Inland Empire, SBD has become increasingly popular with corporate and commercial operators.

"Last year's aircraft trends indicate growing demand for convenient, cost-effective access to the Inland Empire region," he adds.

Located approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles and within 30 minutes of more than two million people, the former Norton Air Force Base was converted to civilian use in 1992 and later became certified as a commercial airport by the FAA. The airport offers a full range of services and facilities to support air cargo operations, general aviation and MRO businesses. SBD is positioning itself to provide domestic and international passenger service.
