West Canadian helicopter operator Summit Helicopters has achieved Gold in the BARS international aviation safety programme overseen by the Flight Safety Foundation.

“We have always worked to understand our clients' needs, including established aviation standards that exceed Transport Canada requirements,” says Summit GM Peter Rice. “We have developed internal processes to review these standards against our approved procedures and to build reference documents, training and exams so our crews are able to meet our clients' expectations easily and efficiently.”

Summit Helicopters first took on the Basic Aviation Risk Standard in 2017 and has progressively increased its operations categories. It has used the standard to bring new types of service into its portfolio.

“After our latest audit, I am pleased to share that Summit has achieved BARS Gold,” continues Rice. “This is an important milestone for Summit Helicopters, and I want to acknowledge the hard work of Luda Karpachova and Jordan Cyr who were instrumental in making this happen. Thank you to the auditors for your detailed audits over the last four years, and special thanks to the Flight Safety Foundation for your meticulous management of this standard. Through continuous improvement we are building a more safe and reliable operation, day by day.”
