Trans Maldivian opts for rust-busting door handles
Trans Maldivian Airways operates in a highly corrosive – as well as a highly beautiful – environment. New Twin Otter door handles designed by Team JAL have been engineered to combat corrosion.
Trans Maldivian has the world's largest fleet of seaplanes.

Trans Maldivian Airways is to be the launch customer for Team JAS' FAA PMA-approved DHC-6 Twin Otter door handles. The new design handles are not only corrosion resistant but also embody improved sealing technology to eliminate the need for continued on-wing maintenance.

Team JAS has been a long-time supplier of parts and MRO services to Trans Maldivian Airways, and we were very excited to be consulted on the new design of these door handles as we operate in such a highly corrosive environment,” explains Trans Maldivian's engineering and maintenance manager Ahmed Fazeel. “As the first company to receive these new door handles, we have also agreed to be the fleet leader user to track their performance over time in a large seaplane operation.”

Team JAS director of maintenance and engineering Jonathon Sanders adds: “We are pleased that Trans Maldivian Airways, the largest Twin Otter Seaplane operator in the world, has become not only our launch customer but will also be the fleet leader in evaluating the long-term life of these new Twin Otter door handles. In addition to a unique new sealing system and a stronger anodised aluminum body, we engineered a new stainless-steel internal shaft to further protect against corrosion and time-consuming recurring maintenance.”

With the world's largest seaplane fleet, Trans Maldivian Airways flies from Velana International airport in Male to holiday destinations in the Maldives.
