Flight deck upgrades enhance Falcons at Gestair
Gestair MRO begins installation of an advanced flight deck upgrade from Universal Avionics on five Falcon 900Bs. The modernisation replaces legacy avionics affordably while future-proofing the aircraft.
The Falcon 900B has received a flight deck upgrade from Universal Avionics.

Universal Avionics, an Elbit Systems company, is supplying authorised dealer Gestair MRO with its EFI-890R Advanced Flight Display for installation in five Falcon 900B aircraft. The programme is now under way in Madrid, Spain and upgrades each aircraft to a modern five-display configuration and also includes the installation of UA's dual UNS-1Fw SBAS Flight Management System (FMS) with five-inch Control Display Units, Engine Interface Unit (EIU), UniLink UL-801 Communications Management Unit (CMU), Solid-State Data Transfer Unit and dual Radio Control Units for a 'total package' solution.

“The Falcon 900B flight deck modernisation effort with Gestair is an affordable solution that replaces legacy avionics instruments,” says UA director of business aviation and OEM sales Robert Clare. “With new, reliable avionics solutions the operator can 'future-proof' the aircraft, taking advantage of the latest technologies such as Europe's Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1).”

“We are delighted to offer a solution for avionics modernisation that will comply with the current mandates of SESAR and ADS-B Out, allowing the service life of Falcon 900B aircraft to be extended,” adds Gestair MRO director Ricardo Tercero. “We expect the Falcon 900Bs that are currently being upgraded to be the first of many others to come. Currently, we are investing in the update of our infrastructure with hangar space capacity of 18,000 sqm, and in equipment and solutions that allow us to position Gestair MRO as a clear reference in the aeronautical maintenance market.”

The EFI-890R Advanced Flight Displays provide primary flight information normally associated with standard Attitude Director Indicator and Horizontal Situation Indicator presentations including altitude, flight guidance and speed information. A centrally-located EFI-890R Multi-Function Display (MFD) interfaces with the EIU to present an all-digital engine indication system that replaces analogue indicators and stores up to 100 hours of engine data. Each engine function is shown in an analogue scale dial and digital readout, providing greater visual identification of important engine parameters.

The SBAS-FMS offers capabilities such as SBAS, LPV, ADS-B Out and P-RNAV, and when paired with the UniLink UL-801 CMU, CPDLC, FANS 1/A+, and ATN B1.
