MTU Aero Engines expands aftermarket footprint in the PW800 engine programme

MTU Aero Engines AG (MTU) and Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) have signed an agreement detailing MTU's aftermarket participation in the PW800 engine programme. With this agreement, MTU is further expanding its operational aftermarket participation for these engines. In the future, also complete PW800 engines will be maintained at the MTU site in Ludwigsfelde, Germany.

“We are pleased to further develop the long lasting relationship with P&WC. This agreement is a great vote of trust,“ says Michael Schreyögg, CPO of MTU. “The contract extension was made possible not least thanks to the comprehensive service portfolio of MTU Maintenance and its focus on the highest possible quality.“

“This is another way we are striving to meet the MRO needs of our customers around the globe,” said Irene Makris, vice president, customer service at Pratt & Whitney Canada. “The PW800 universe is expanding, and we are delighted to be collaborating with MTU on this new MRO facility. We have been working with MTU for more than three decades and have collaborated on many projects, including on the development of the low-pressure turbine for the PW800 engine.”

The basis for the extension that has now taken place is the agreement for the PW800 reached between MTU and P&WC in 2011. Since then, MTU has been supporting the programme's aftermarket, in particular through its site in Ludwigsfelde in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. With a specialised on-site service team, MTU carries out maintenance work from Ludwigsfelde directly at the customer's site and is the first location worldwide to perform maintenance of the low-pressure turbine module.

The PW800 is part of Pratt & Whitney's PurePower family and powers four applications in the heavy business jet segment, the premium segment of business jets: the PW814 and PW815 engines are used in the Gulfstream G500 and G600, the PW812 will in future power the Gulfstream G400 and the Dassault Falcon 6X. More than 160 PW800 engines are already in operation. For MTU, the PW800 engine family is an important part in its business jet engine portfolio and the recently signed agreement is another strong sign of the successful cooperation with P&WC.
