Congressional aviation leaders, agency officials to be part of first-ever sustainable business aviation fuels summit

The Business Aviation Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF Coalition) today announced that U.S. Representatives. Garret Graves (R-La.), Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), and Acting U.S. Under Secretary for Transportation Policy Joel Szabat will address the Virtual 2020 Business Aviation Global Sustainability Summit, being held September 14-15.

The officials will join others from government, as well as manufacturers, producers, providers/FBOs and operators, to discuss how to increase the production, availability and use of SAF, the cleaner-burning alternative fuel which, on a gallon-per-gallon basis, often reduces net lifecycle CO2 emissions in excess of 50%, versus conventional jet fuel.

Rep. Larsen chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, and Rep. Graves is the ranking member for the same subcommittee. Acting Under Secretary Szabat provides leadership in the development of policies for the DOT.

The summit will take place on Monday, September 14 from 1030 a.m. until 1230 p.m. ET, and Tuesday, September 15 from 1030 a.m. to 1245 p.m.

The SAF Coalition includes the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI), European Business Aviation Association (EBAA), General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), National Air Transportation Association (NATA) and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).

The coalition's work is supported by a Steering Committee that includes dozens of aviation businesses, representing every point in the SAF development-and-supply chain.

The SAF Coalition recently released Fueling the Future, an educational and informational resource about the practicalities of SAF development, industry adoption, and pending expansion of supply and use, primarily from the perspectives of the business aviation community.

The guide and summit build on coalition efforts over years to educate industry leaders, policymakers and others on the benefits and viability of SAF, including at the World Economic Forum and previous events held at airports in Van Nuys, CA, Farnborough, UK, Geneva and Las Vegas.
