Atlas Air Service presents Embraer executive jet fleet at City Airport Mannheim

Atlas Air Service recently presented the Embraer Legacy 450/500 and Embraer Phenom 300 business jets at City Airport Mannheim. At the same time the general operating licence of City Airport Mannheim was extended to include the Legacy 450 and 500 aircraft types.

The executive jets by Embraer, the third-largest aircraft manufacturer worldwide, benefit from the production processes of Embraer's commercial aircraft and their cutting edge development. Lufthansa, KLM, Austrian Airlines and other international airlines use Embraer commercial aircraft as so-called cityhoppers.

The Legacy 450/500 boasts a state-of-the-art aircraft design with fly-by-wire and side sticks (similar to the Airbus design). The Honeywell 7500 turbofan also represents a new generation of aircraft engines. The Legacy 500 has a maximum take-off mass of 17,400 kg and has been approved for twelve passengers plus crew. The smaller Legacy 450 has nine seats and a maximum take-off weight of 16,220 kg. Both jets have a wingspan of 29.25 m. The headroom of 1.83 m and cabin width of 2.08 m emphasises the spaciousness of the passenger cabin.

City Airport Mannheim provides an extremely short take-off and landing runway and is surrounded by obstacles. Nevertheless, observing all relevant requirements, the smooth take-off and landing of both aircraft can be assured even in case of engine failure.

“The Legacy 450/500 brings the ‘owest-noise aircraft to Mannheim. When the Legacy 450 replaces older jets, the general noise level will be significantly reduced,” states Mr. Dirk Eggert, technical director of City Airport Mannheim.
