MD Helicopters receives order for two MD 902 Explorer aircraft from Kurdistan Regional Government

MD Helicopters Inc. (MDHI), a Lynn Tilton company and leading manufacturer of commercial, air-rescue, military and law enforcement helicopters, announced new orders from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for two MD 902 Explorer helicopters. The helicopters will provide vip transport support to senior government officials. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2013.

“We are honored that the Kurdistan Regional Government selected MD aircraft to support their most esteemed transport requirements” said Ms. Lynn Tilton, chief executive officer of MDHI. “The Explorer is the most capable, cost effective and versatile light-twin in the market. It also features state-of-the-art safety technologies including NOTAR. We value the KRG trust in our aircraft and pledge to meet and exceed their expectations in performance and support.”

“After a competitive review of aircraft performance and overall support capabilities, we selected MD Helicopters as the best fit for our mission requirements,” stated Minister Sinjari, of the KRG. “The Kurdistan Regional Government looks forward to a long standing relationship with MD Helicopters.”

The KRG Explorer fleet will be equipped with the latest technologies, including weather radar and IFR Category A capability. Powered by two Pratt and Whitney Canada PW207E engines, the MD 902 Explorer features a fully articulated main rotor system, bearingless composite flexbeams and rotor hub. With NOTAR anti-torque technology, the MD 902 Explorer continues to be the only light twin in the world to operate without a tail rotor, an extraordinary safety and noise reduction advantage. The six-place cabin is also the largest in the light-twin class. MD 902 Explorer safety and maintainability are further enhanced by integrated HIRF and lightning strike protection, built-in maintenance steps and platforms, and an advanced composite airframe that is resistant to corrosion.
