With this addition, LifeFlight of Maine now has four A109 SP helicopters, which are newer, faster and slightly larger than its predecessor, the A109 E, which LifeFlight first began flying as its primary aircraft in 2005.

The US aeromedical service has cared for and transported more than 40,000 patients in the state of Maine across its helicopter, aircraft and ground transport programmes.

Incoming Joe Kellner's responsibilities will encompass all operations of LifeFlight of Maine and LifeFlight Aviation Services. He will be supported by Bill Cyr, the chief operating officer of LifeFlight. Tom Judge steps down.
