General aviation aircraft must reserve landing and takeoff slots at London Luton airport. The requirement, which came into operation on 25 March, will be enforced by Airport Coordination Limited (ACL). Slots are already required for airline traffic.
Luton airport says it does not want to discourage business aircraft but has had to introduce
the requirement to be able to "better manage the flow of ad hoc traffic."
Prior permission must be secured through Airport Coordination Limited or "as a last resort" through Luton's Operations Control Centre. ACL says slots are already required for GA traffic at London City, Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. They are not required at Biggin Hill or Farnborough, and the RAF Northolt military base has its own slot process.
