Dad ensures show goes on
Offshore industry air carrier CHC Scotia flew chart-topping pop star Sandi Thom to a gig in northern Scotland after tuning into an unusual mayday call. Banff-born singer-songwriter Sandi was in dire straits when a flight due to take her from Aberdeen to the Magfest event on Orkney was cancelled due to bad weather.

But, luckily for the 24-year-old, whose debut single I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair) made it to number one in the UK charts, her dad is a pilot with Aberdeen-based CHC. When Captain Sandy Thom heard about his daughter's quandary he worked with colleagues in the flight operations team at CHC to take his rising-star daughter to the islands. The experienced pilot flew Sandi and her fellow musicians to Orkney in time for her soundcheck, ensuring that the show could go on.
