S-76C broadens coastguard service
Swedish search and rescue operator Norrlandsflyg has acquired a second Sikorsky S-76C. Having bought the first S-76 in 1993, the company operates six Sikorsky helicopters in total; two C models, which are used for search and rescue and three A models and an A+ aircraft, which are operated as air ambulances.

The company started out as a tourist transport operator but last year sold the aircraft used for this division of the business and decided to concentrate on the air ambulance and search and rescue sector.

According to Norrlandsflyg’s md Monica Hedstrom, the company chose the S-76C because it is the

best aircraft for maritime search and rescue. It owns the first C model and has acquired the second by

lease purchase.

The helicopter will be based at Visby and Sundsvall and will operate along the eastern and central coasts of Sweden. Hedstrom said the company is planning to acquire two more C+ models.
