Forecast looks promising for business jet market
Business jet manufacturers should see a double-digit increase in production this year, according to the predictions of market intelligence provider Forecast International.

Business jet manufacturers should see a double-digit increase in production this year, according

to the predictions of market intelligence provider Forecast International.

Following a two-year decline between 2002 and 2003, production levels increased by almost 16 per cent last year, the company claims.

Figures are expected to continue rising beyond 2005, with nearly 10,900 jets worth $141 billion manufactured between 2005 and 2014.

Two of the most dynamic segments are likely to be the very light jet (VLJ) class and the long-range business jet. The VLJ category, which includes the Cessna Mustang, Eclipse 500 and Embraer VLJ, seat approximately six people – passenger and crew – and cost a maximum of $2.75 million.

In the long-range business jet category, Bombardier, Dassault and Gulfstream are all introducing new models. Cessna, Bombardier and Eclipse Aviation are expected to lead the market in unit production, says Raymond Jaworowski, Forecast International’s senior aerospace analyst.

Although the outlook remains optimistic, several challenges remain for business aviation in the year ahead, including limitations on airport access, tax and regulatory issues and environmental requirements.
