Cardiff enjoys rotary boom

Cardiff Municipal Heliport, which is operated and occupied by Veritair Helicopters on behalf of Cardiff County Council, has reported increased public service use of its downtown capital city FBO.

Recent joint fire and police helicopter operations (funded by the Welsh Assembly) based at the heliport proved to be a success, and future development of this concept is likely within the principality.

The company states that the devolved regional government from Westminster (London) to the new Welsh Assembly Parliament at Cardiff enables the prospect of Wales pioneering the possibility of permanent, joint fire/police helicopter operations – perhaps even involving air ambulance services – under one emergency service operation.

The idea is now receiving active Welsh Assembly consideration, with minister Edwina Hart having recently attended the facility on a fact-finding visit.
