Greer Aviation has opened its new passenger and baggage screening facilities at its Glasgow Prestwick and Edinburgh Airport locations. The FBO is responding to heightened levels of airport security following the events of September 11, 2001.
The company recently took delivery of Rapiscan 527 x-ray baggage scanners and walk-through metal detectors. “We have joined a select number of UK FBOs able to provide in-house security screening,” said md Bert Greer.
“Now that the UK Government (Department for Transport) is consulting with airports and AOC holders on their security proposals for 2.73 to 9.99 tonne aircraft, an increasing number of operators and pilots will be basing their choice of FBO on the security facilities they can provide, with the minimum of inconvenience to their passengers. We are in a position to offer what we feel our clients will demand.”
Greer believes that the legislation can close a loophole in the baggage handling process, by eliminating the risk of third-party tampering with the baggage of corporate fliers.
“Any FBO can claim security to
be its top priority,” he added.
“The new screening service provides both tangible proof of our commitment to security and peace of mind to our clients.”
Greer Aviation anticipates that
its security equipment will come
into its own as it handles flights associated with both the G8 Summit at Gleneagles and the British
Open Golf Championship at St Andrews this year.
