Danish satellite communication system specialist Thrane & Thrane has developed a High Speed Unit (HSU), which it says supports greater bandwidth capability than previously possible with the Inmarsat satellite system. The HSU product is an add-on to the Aero-HSD+ (High-Speed Data) solution launched in 2003 to allow business jet operators to use high-speed voice, email and internet services.
The one-channel HSU provides an additional 64kbps data rate to the Aero-HSD+, boosting overall band-width to 128kbps. “Addition of the HSU means that you can use one channel for video conferencing,
while still having access to the internet on the other channel or you can bundle the channels for higher throughput,” said aeronautical sales manager Peter Frost.
The HSU is already installed on several aircraft types, including the Falcon 900EX and Gulfstream G200.
