Canadian Advanced Air Mobility (CAAM) and architecture firm Perkins&Will have unveiled an advanced air mobility vertiport concept for Langley Regional Airport in British Columbia, setting out how the site could develop AAM infrastructure in phases.
The concept combines dedicated aviation facilities with a landside commercial campus intended to support regional business activity. It relies on modular planning and prefabricated construction, allowing the facility to expand as certification, aircraft availability and passenger demand develop. Mass timber structural components and finishes are incorporated throughout, aimed at creating a familiar passenger environment while supporting construction efficiency.
JR Hammond, executive director of CAAM, says: “Canada has an opportunity to shape advanced air mobility in a way that is safe, sustainable, practical and connected to community needs. Vertiport infrastructure is a critical part of that future.”
Adrian Watson, design director at Perkins&Will, adds: “The Langley vertiport is a continuation of our values-based approach, which brings together regenerative design, innovation, craft and positive human experience.”
Perkins&Will's Vancouver studio has spent more than 20 years working on Canadian transit infrastructure, including SkyTrain stations across Metro Vancouver on the Millennium and Canada Lines, and the Surrey-Langley extension. In Montréal, the firm recently completed work on the Réseau express métropolitain in joint venture with Lemay and Bisson Fortin.
Langley is among British Columbia's fastest-growing municipalities, and the concept positions Langley Regional Airport as a potential hub within a wider regional AAM network.
