BlueSky San Juan has broken ground on a new $54 million, privately financed, full-service FBO at Luis Munoz Marin International airport, representing Puerto Rico's largest private investment in business aviation infrastructure in more than a decade.

Developed by a group of Puerto Rican investors with more than 40 years of experience in aviation, construction and infrastructure development, the five-acre facility is scheduled for completion in summer 2028, with operations expected to begin in the autumn.

BlueSky is expected to generate approximately 30 construction jobs, 60 to 80 permanent direct positions and an estimated 110 indirect jobs while establishing a new benchmark for business aviation in Puerto Rico. The project will strengthen San Juan's position as the premier Caribbean gateway to the continental US.

New BlueSky installations will include an integrated US CBP inspection facility, allowing eligible international arrivals to clear customs directly at the FBO before continuing to destinations throughout the US as domestic flights. The streamlined process will save time and improve operational efficiency for aircraft arriving from the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa.

Located on Apron 12 off runway 10 on the south side of Luis Munoz Marin International, BlueSky San Juan is positioned to provide one of the airport's fastest aircraft turnarounds. Aircraft will taxi directly from the runway to the FBO within seconds, minimising ground movement and passenger transfer times.

The new aviation campus will include an 8,000 sq ft executive terminal, more than 60,000 sq ft of hangar space across three 20,000 sq ft hangars and an approximately 275,000 sq ft aircraft apron capable of servicing and accommodating everything from light business jets to ultra-long-range executive aircraft, military aircraft and wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 747.

The new terminal will feature premium amenities for passengers and crews, including executive lounges, dedicated pilot facilities, conference and flight-planning rooms, concierge services, ground transportation and seamless on-site customs processing.

BlueSky will also provide a comprehensive range of services, including aircraft fuelling, line services, aircraft and cargo handling, hangar rental, aircraft marshalling and towing, ground support equipment, concierge services, world-class in-flight catering, customs coordination, executive transportation and support for domestic and international operations.

Puerto Rico-based operators will benefit from immediate ramp access and direct connections to the island's primary highway network.

The facility is located approximately five minutes from the airport's commercial terminals and less than 15 minutes from San Juan's principal hotel, financial and tourism districts, providing convenient access for based aircraft, transient operators and corporate travellers alike.

As a 24-hour, all-weather, FAA-certified international airport with full instrument approaches, Luis Munoz Marin International Airport remains one of the Caribbean's leading business aviation gateways. BlueSky's FBO will further strengthen that position by adding more than 60,000 square feet of modern hangar capacity, helping replace space lost following Hurricanes Irma and Maria while accommodating today's larger, longer-range business aircraft.

A retired US Army Colonel, Maldonado founded MN Aviation more than four decades ago before developing Pazos FBO, which was later acquired by Jet Aviation. BlueSky represents the latest milestone in Maldonado's illustrious career and enduring commitment to advancing business aviation in Puerto Rico.

The project has received key approvals from the FAA, Aerostar Airport Holdings, environmental agencies, and US CBP. Remaining operational certifications are progressing in coordination with the appropriate federal and local agencies.
