Customers requiring advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) services can now benefit from expanded technical expertise at Duncan Aviation. NDT technical representative and responsible Level 3 Brian Young has earned an American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level 3 certification in Liquid Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Ultrasonic Testing and Electromagnetic Testing.

Widely regarded as the highest professional certification in the nondestructive testing industry, ASNT Level 3 certification recognises individuals with advanced technical knowledge and extensive industry experience. The credential authorises Young to develop and approve inspection procedures, train and certify technicians, and serve as the highest technical authority for these testing methods. It also expands Duncan Aviation’s ability to support customers whose projects require ASNT-certified Level 3 oversight. For aircraft operators, this means access to advanced inspection capabilities that support accurate evaluations, regulatory compliance and informed maintenance decisions.

Young’s interest in pursuing the certification began early in his career while studying Non-Destructive Testing at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska. Inspired by instructors and industry mentors who had earned the credential themselves, he set a personal goal of one day achieving the same distinction.

After graduating in 1998 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Non-Destructive Testing, Young began his career at Raytheon in Kansas, where he became active in the local ASNT chapter and continued learning from experienced NDT professionals. He joined Duncan Aviation in 2006 as an NDT tech II and has since advanced through the roles of NDT master tech, NDT team lead and, most recently, NDT technical representative and responsible Level 3.

To earn the certifications, Young completed an extensive application process documenting his education, training and industry experience before passing tough examinations in four testing methods. The process, which took 18 months to complete, also included a comprehensive basic examination covering multiple NDT disciplines, manufacturing processes, industry codes and technical standards.
