Titan warns of aviation fuel shortages across Europe
Reliance on imported fuel and shipping risks have tightened supply, raising concerns for operators ahead of peak summer demand.
Availability has become the industry’s central concern, with CEO Daniel Coetzer warning that some fuel contracts are no longer feasible under current market conditions.

Titan Aviation Fuels’ Geneva office is highlighting mounting aviation fuel supply pressure across Europe as operators face tightening availability during peak season.

“Right now, the biggest concern across the industry is simple: availability,” says Daniel Coetzer, CEO of Titan Aviation Fuels Sarl. “Suppliers are under real pressure to deliver on contracts that, in some cases, are no longer feasible given current market conditions. This is already creating shortages, and with Europe entering its peak summer season, the situation could become significantly more challenging.”

Europe continues to rely heavily on refined jet fuel imports from the Middle East, leaving supply exposed to geopolitical tension and maritime security risks.

“If the security of shipping lanes cannot be guaranteed in the coming months, we expect further disruptions,” Coetzer adds. “That has serious implications for business and general aviation, especially as suppliers prioritise fuelling commercial scheduled flights.”

Titan has maintained supply continuity for its customers despite wider disruption, supported by AI-driven systems that optimise its international network and anticipate potential shortfalls.

“We use AI to create a smoother, more predictable supply environment,” Coetzer says. “But we never remove the human factor. Our relationships with customers and suppliers remain the most important component of our business.”

Alongside supply pressure, the sector continues to adjust to ReFuelEU Aviation requirements and the rollout of sustainable aviation fuel.

“After a difficult start, we're now seeing better alignment across the industry,” adds Coetzer. “There is broader acceptance of the 2% SAF mandate, even at airports where SAF is not physically available in the fuel supply.”

Compliance reporting remains complex, though processes are expected to improve through 2026 as standards become more consistent.

Titan is supporting SAF development through its role in the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification and through collaboration with partners to maintain certification integrity.

An internal application has also been introduced to manage SAF certificates, improving transparency and easing compliance for customers.
