IAS Medical and GNAAS secure Isle of Man air bridge continuity
The fixed-wing and helicopter operators have retained contracts to continue urgent patient transfers to specialist hospitals across the UK.
GNAAS’s AS365 Dauphin helicopter supports its rapid-response missions.

IAS Medical and the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) will continue delivering the Isle of Man’s emergency air bridge services after securing new contracts through Manx Care’s latest tender.

IAS Medical retains responsibility for fixed-wing interhospital transfers and repatriation, while GNAAS continues operating the helicopter emergency medical service, maintaining existing delivery structures across the Island’s critical care network.

The agreements run for five years, with a two-year extension option, sustaining a system that enables rapid transfer of seriously ill or injured patients to specialist centres across the United Kingdom.

Operating alongside the Isle of Man Ambulance Service, both providers support advanced pre-hospital care and direct transfers to major trauma and specialist cardiac facilities.

Peter Roberts, managing director at IAS Medical Ltd, says: “We are pleased to continue supporting Manx Care and the Isle of Man through the delivery of fixed-wing air ambulance and repatriation services over the next five years. The emergency air bridge is a lifeline for patients who need rapid access to specialist care, and we are proud to help ensure transfers are delivered safely, reliably and to the highest clinical standards.”

Joe Garcia MBE, chief executive officer at the Great North Air Ambulance Service, adds: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Manx Care and provide a critical care service to the Isle of Man population. On average we're responding to around 20 incidents a year, and we are grateful to Manx Care and the Isle of Man community for their help in funding these missions.”
