NHV pioneers H175 offshore wind ops out of Gdańsk
The new base in Gdańsk reflects NHV's long-term vision in the region. Crew change operations are conducted using one to two H175 helicopters, ensuring safe, fast and reliable transport for offshore technicians.
The GAA facility is ultra modern.

NHV Group has achieved a significant milestone for Poland and the Baltic offshore wind sector. Since July 2025, NHV has been performing crew change operations for the construction of the Baltic Power Offshore Windfarm, using an Airbus H175. This marks the first time a super-medium helicopter has been deployed to support offshore wind operations in Poland.

NHV operates from the new General Aviation Airbase (GAA) facility at Gdansk Lech Walesa airport. The facility features an innovative, high-security hangar of over 4,000 sqm, complemented by modern, high-quality amenities designed to support both passengers and flight crews.

The new base in Gdańsk reflects NHV's long-term vision in the region. Crew change operations are conducted using one to two H175 helicopters, ensuring safe, fast and reliable transport for offshore technicians. As offshore wind farms move further from shore and turbine size continues to increase, demand for high-capacity, versatile helicopters like the H175 continues to rise.

NHV's helicopter operations reduce transfer times by a factor of six to 10 compared to conventional vessel transport, while also enabling operations in more challenging weather conditions, significantly enhancing efficiency and safety during offshore wind construction phases.

“This expansion into Poland reflects NHV's ambition to be a long-term helicopter partner for the offshore wind industry,” says Bram De Backer, commercial director at NHV. “By leveraging our scale, fleet size and established network of bases across the North Sea, the UK and the Baltic region, we ensure helicopter availability and operational continuity wherever offshore wind projects are developed. The addition of the Gdańsk base further strengthens our ability to support the full project lifecycle, including crew change, hoisting and offshore medical support, delivered to the same high operational and safety standards.”

NHV's partnership with Vestas, under a multi-year contract awarded in 2024, secures long-term support for offshore wind operations in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. With this expansion, NHV further strengthens its position as key enabler of Poland's emerging offshore wind market, delivering crew change solutions with unmatched speed, safety and operational reliability.

Bram De Backer adds: “GAA's expertise and high operational standards have been instrumental in enabling Poland's first state-of-the-art ground handling facilities dedicated to offshore wind helicopter operations. This milestone marks a significant step forward for Poland's offshore wind sector and highlights the power of strong partnerships in delivering complex aviation operations that support the energy transition.”
