StarFlight Australia has begun 24/7 helicopter emergency medical services across Tasmania following months of specialist training with Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Police. The service builds on StarFlight’s existing presence in Tasmania and embeds modern aircraft, highly‑trained aeromedical crews and advanced systems statewide. StarFlight was awarded the $354 million, 12‑year contract last August after a rigorous open tender.
Recruitment was completed with most roles being filled by former Rotor‑Lift Aviation staff, retaining local knowledge and experience. StarFlight’s services include accredited training programmes, apprenticeship schemes and community trauma training called First Minutes Matter.
StarFlight has also ordered three new Airbus H145 helicopters to strengthen Tasmania’s aeromedical network. These versatile aircraft, expected in late 2027, will fly about 1,500 hours per year and support aeromedical, search and rescue and law enforcement missions.
Initial operations will be based at Cambridge Airport in Hobart until a purpose‑built facility is completed.
