Metro strengthens rotorcraft capabilities with H160 and H140 developments

Metro Aviation has advanced its rotorcraft capabilities with two major initiatives designed to enhance support for critical-care transport. It became the first completion centre to offer an EMS interior supplemental type certificate (STC) for the Airbus H160 and signed a purchase agreement for 12 H140 aircraft to be completed at its Shreveport, Louisiana facility.

The H160 bridges the gap between the H145 and H175 in Airbus’s product line. It features the Helionix avionics suite, Blue Edge rotor blades and a Fenestron tail, offering reduced noise and improved situational awareness for air medical missions. Metro collaborated closely with Airbus and early operators to develop an EMS interior tailored for critical-care needs.

Its STC package integrates intensive-care stretcher systems, medical interfaces and optimised cabin layouts, offering operators a next-generation medical platform. The company plans to make the kit available worldwide, with completion expected by the end of Q1 2026.

Metro’s agreement for 12 H140 aircraft further expands its air medical offering, providing a light-twin option for emergency response and interfacility transport. The company is set to receive the first two U.S. deliveries in 2029, allowing time to refine EMS interiors in partnership with operators.

According to Airbus, the H140’s large cabin, wide doors and Helionix avionics system make it suitable for intensive-care and incubator transport. Metro’s completion expertise will ensure the aircraft are configured precisely for mission readiness.
