CAA sets out eVTOL Delivery Model to support safe UK operations
The UK Civil Aviation Authority has published a framework supporting safe integration of eVTOL flights while encouraging innovation and growth.
Collaborating with industry, government and international partners, the framework seeks to balance safety with sector growth.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has published an eVTOL Delivery Model that sets out how the regulatory framework can be delivered in practice, while promoting the safe integration of eVTOL operations alongside existing aviation.

As part of this work, the Civil Aviation Authority is collaborating with industry, government and international partners, building on existing aviation rules but adapting them for this new technology, and prioritising safety while supporting innovation and sector growth.

This technology has the potential to support the wider decarbonisation of aviation, boost the UK's position as an aviation innovator and unlock new ways to travel. To enable innovation and new ways of flying within the UK, the model sets out the CAA's objectives and delivery principles to regulate effectively.

Sophie O'Sullivan, director future safety and innovation at the UK Civil Aviation Authority, says: “The emergence of eVTOL offers new opportunities for the aerospace industry and the potential to reshape how people travel and goods are delivered. Our eVTOL Delivery Model outlines how we as a regulator are working to enable this new industry to operate with the highest safety standards, and our ambition to put in place the regulatory framework to facilitate commercial eVTOL operations in the UK by the end of 2028 in line with the government's objectives.”
