The third and fourth BK117 D-3s joined the National Police Agency fleet as the force expanded its disaster and rescue capacity
The National Police Agency of Japan has added two more H145//BK117 D-3 helicopters to its aviation unit, bringing its fleet of this model to four. The aircraft, delivered by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, offer strong performance for patrols, investigation and search and rescue.
The D-3’s agility, speed and cockpit visibility support operations in disaster-affected zones and high-altitude locations. Rear clamshell doors and a flat-floored cabin ease stretcher handling, while new avionics and a five-blade rotor reduce pilot workload and cabin vibration.
The BK117 series, developed jointly by Kawasaki and Airbus Helicopters, has served public and private operators since 1983. Of over 2,000 units delivered worldwide, 202 have gone to Japanese users across roles such as emergency medical services, fire response and law enforcement.
The police aviation unit continues to integrate helicopters suited to complex missions. These latest additions are expected to increase its response speed and operational flexibility across Japan.
