AMSL Aero partners with Conflux to cool hydrogen eVTOL
Conflux Technology’s motorsport-based cooling system will support the hydrogen fuel cells powering AMSL Aero’s Vertiia aircraft from 2025.
Vertiia will use Conflux cooling systems for its first hydrogen-electric flights later this year.

AMSL Aero has teamed up with Conflux Technology to develop cooling systems for its hydrogen-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Vertiia. The partnership was revealed at the Avalon Air Show in Melbourne.

Vertiia will use Conflux’s advanced heat exchangers to cool its hydrogen fuel cells. The aircraft will cruise at 300 km/h and fly up to 1,000 kilometres with zero emissions. It completed its first free flights in late 2024 and will conduct hydrogen-powered flights later this year.

“In Vertiia, we are building a hydrogen-electric aircraft that flies record-breaking distances at Formula 1 speeds, making Conflux Technology, with its storied history of innovation in motorsport and aviation, the perfect partner for us,” says AMSL Aero chairman Chris Smallhorn.

The first phase of the project developed three lightweight heat exchanger designs. The next phase will deliver a proof-of-concept unit for integration into the aircraft’s hydrogen system.

“Hydrogen fuel cells are shaping the future of sustainable aviation, and thermal management is critical to their performance,” says Conflux CEO Michael Fuller. “By integrating our advanced heat exchange technology with Vertiia’s fuel cells, we're optimising efficiency and driving the next generation of clean aviation solutions.”
