magniX unveils HeliStorm electric engines for rotorcraft
Lightweight, high-speed electric engines are designed for helicopters and hybrid-electric platforms, extending magniX’s role in sustainable aviation.
The first HeliStorm engine delivers 330kW of power while weighing just 75kg.

magniX has introduced HeliStorm, a new range of lightweight electric engines designed for helicopters, including light single-engine and hybrid-electric twin-engine rotorcraft. The engines, when combined with magniX's Samson batteries, provide a complete electric power solution. The first HeliStorm engine delivers 330kW at just 75kg.

Key features include operating speeds of 6,000-7,000 rpm, scalable power outputs and fault-handling capabilities. The engines also enable airborne power generation, supporting hybrid-electric aircraft with extended range. magniX has leveraged its experience from previous flight tests, including two integrations with Robinson R44 helicopters. The first magniX-powered R44 flew in June 2022, marking the world’s first point-to-point electric helicopter flight.

magniX CEO Reed Macdonald says, “The helicopter market represents a tremendous opportunity for magniX, as the strengths of our technology align well with the market need. magniX’s HeliStorm engines expand upon our existing world leading capabilities and deliver a step change in performance, reliability and value for our customers.”
