Avionica develops AI tools for flight data decoding
The company's deep learning models extract flight parameters from recorder data, giving operators control over analytics without OEM documentation.

Avionica has introduced an AI-powered approach to flight data decoding that allows operators to analyse and interpret their aircraft data independently. Using deep learning models, the system extracts critical flight parameters directly from flight data recorder (FDR) data, removing reliance on proprietary OEM documentation.

By applying AI-driven pattern recognition and the FAA’s reverse engineering process, Avionica is helping operators gain more control over their data analysis. The company is also open-sourcing its trained AI models and decoder libraries to support collaboration across the industry.

“This initiative is about putting the power of flight data back in the hands of operators,” says Avionica vice president of engineering Edward Gorman. “By harnessing the potential of AI, we're eliminating barriers to aircraft data access and enabling the industry to make more informed, efficient and safety-conscious decisions.”

Avionica plans to release its open-source AI models and decoder libraries in collaboration with the aviation community, inviting operators, MROs, regulators and researchers to contribute to their development.
