VFS gains TCCA STC for EC130 lithium-ion battery
With over 60 kits installed across H125 and EC130 helicopters, Vertical Flight Solutions continues to solidify its reputation for delivering highly dependable and effective lithium-ion battery replacement solutions.
This 20 amp-hour battery has an average useful life of 10 years, on-condition maintenance, up to 60 per cent less weight and a higher amp-to-pound ratio compared to other batteries on the market.

Kansas-based Vertical Flight Solutions (VFS) has received TCCA STC approval for its True Blue Power TB20 lithium-ion battery kit for the Airbus EC130 helicopter series. It has already installed over 60 kits across H125 and EC130 helicopters.

This 20 amp-hour battery offers an average useful life of 10 years, on-condition maintenance, up to 60 per cent less weight and a higher amp-to-pound ratio compared to any other battery on the market.

The TB20 battery's exceptional performance extends to its ability to withstand high temperatures and cold weather conditions, ensuring optimal safety and reliability in all environments. With key attributes such as elevated nominal output voltage and increased power during start sequences, the TB20 battery reduces wear and tear, ensuring reliable turbine engine starts and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

The TB20 lithium-ion battery kit is not only a highly reliable and safe choice, it’s also the epitome of forward-thinking aviation technology. Its sleek design, built-in health monitoring and exceptional performance make it a must-have for operators looking to stay ahead of the curve.

VFS currently holds the following STC approvals for the new-generation lithium-ion technology:

- FAA/TCCA approval for the TB20 (20-amp hour) lithium-ion battery kit in H125 baggage compartment location

- TCCA approval for the TB20 (20-amp hour) lithium-ion battery kit in H125 tailboom location (FAA approval pending October 2024)

- TCCA approval for the TB30 (30-amp hour) lithium-ion battery kit in H125 tailboom location (FAA approval pending October 2024)

- TCCA approval for the TB20 lithium-ion battery kit in EC130 tailboom location (FAA approval pending October 2024)

To complement the TB20 battery system, VFS offers the optional MD23-104 digital ACU from Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics. This multi-functional indicator provides pilots with essential data including battery status, state of charge, state of health, voltage, amps, temperature, remaining life and fault data, all displayed in smooth, high-resolution graphics. Additionally, the MD23-104 provides local time and a flight timer, eliminating the need for a separate clock instrument, streamlining the cockpit and aiding in flight coordination and planning.
