Genesys delivers seamless control of comms radios
Operators can now control eight radios right from their IDU-680 displays following the integration of the PAC45G digital audio controller by Genesys, and its new line of digital radios can operate around the world.
The Digital Radio Line integrates to the Genesys avionics suite.

The IDU-680 EFIS display from Genesys Aerosystems now integrates with the PAC45G digital audio controller from PS Engineering. The PAC45G is a TSO approved audio management system that offers MultiTalker, a patented technology providing up to nine unique positions so that each radio has its own location within a stereo headset. The Genesys IDU-680 integrates with and controls the PAC45G utilising the dedicated IDU-680 Audio Radio Management (ARM) function.

“Working with Genesys is like working with our internal team. Our common goals of integrity, engineering-based quality and customer-focused solutions worked hand in hand. We're providing a world-class digital audio controller to the company that leads the industry in integrated cockpit solutions for civil and military operators,” says PS Engineering founder and CEO Mark Scheuer.

The Level-A certified Genesys IDU-680 EFIS display features a variety of PFD and MFD formats that can be configured to show flight instruments, moving map, HSI, flight planner, traffic, terrain, weather radar, datalink, video, radio/audio management and engine displays. It also features a build-in Flight Management System and integrated Class-A TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System). Genesys' unique OASIS (Open Architecture System Integration Symbology) platform allows flexibility to display engine information, CAS messages and special-mission equipment, and GPS and ADAHRS provide precise GPS navigation and digital air data to the advanced avionics suite.

“Seamless integration into existing and new equipment is why our customers select our avionics suite,” notes Genesys director of business development Nick Bogner. “We now have the option to offer operators the ability to control eight communication radios right from their IDU-680 displays. In a special mission environment, managing multiple communication devices, frequencies and passengers on the aircraft can be a challenge. Now, with the integration of the PAC45G, IDU-680 users can handle the communication effortlessly.”

The company has also introduced its Genesys digital radio (GDR), a new product line and a family of remote-mounted, software-definable radios. It features combined VOR/localiser/glideslope and marker beacon navigation and VHF communication with a frequency range of 118-136 MHz or 118-156 MHz and 25 or 8.33 kHz channelisation with transmit power of 16 or 25 watts. Embedded UHF 225-400MHz communication is available as an option. The radio is designed to interface to a host controller/display that has the capability to control the navigation and communications functions via RS-232, RS-422, or ARINC-429 serial interfaces.

“The GDR is a powerful radio line that is customisable and is the perfect complement to our avionics suite, including our EFIS, autopilot and sensor product lines,” says vice president of business development Gordon Pratt. “Special mission customers have been looking for a cost-effective yet feature-rich radio solution and we are excited to provide them a growing number of options.”

The GDR is capable of voice communications between aircraft, ground stations and other aircraft, as well as receiving and processing VOR beacon signals for navigation and instrument landing systems (LOC/GS/MBR). The radio can operate up to 55,000 ft, and between -55 and +70 Celsius. With 8.33 and 25 kHz spacing, it is capable of operating around the world, and has achieved Design Assurance Level A, the highest level in safety assessment for software, as well as MIL-STD 704E and 810G, accommodating all segments of the aviation market.

“This new radio integrates well with our complete avionics suite solution or has the option to work as a standalone unit,” adds Pratt.
