California FBO drives cleaner car rental partnership
Luxivair at San Bernardino International airport has partnered with car hire app company StratosShare to offer the latest clean air technology to FBO customers. The cars' only emission is water.

A zero-emission Toyota Mirai is now available to FBO customers at Luxivair at San Bernadino International airport, for rent by the hour or by the day through StratosShare, the first hydrogen fuel cell rental service of its kind in California. Luxivair SBD is committed to offering convenient transportation alternatives to its customers that are also environmentally mindful; the car emits only pure water.

“StratosShare's goal is to make multimodal transportation as seamless as possible. That is why we chose to partner with Luxivair SBD, because we wanted to provide a zero emission alternative to the traditional rental car market by introducing an on demand concept that can provide a vehicle within minutes, all from someone's smartphone,” says Jonathan Palacios-Avila, CEO and co-founder of parent company StratosFuel. StratosShare is in the process of rolling out more rental locations throughout California, as well as including other hydrogen fuel cell models into its fleet. The company will be introducing more locations at its launch event on 19 September at the Center for Environmental Research & Technology, University California Riverside.

Renting a Toyota Mirai is achieved through a smartphone application, by which users can reserve and unlock the vehicle as well as pay the rental fee, all from their phone. Passengers and flight crew can head directly to their rental the moment they land; foregoing the need for traditional paperwork and vehicle inspections. When they are done, they can park the car and go. No need for refuelling or long lines to return the rental car. The rental fee for StratoShare includes insurance, fuel and maintenance, and no membership or annual fee is required.

The Toyota Mirai is a four-door luxury sedan that can be driven over 300 miles before refuelling. Mirai, which means 'the future' in Japanese, is a natural fit for Luxivair SBD. “We attribute the FBO's growth to constant investments in our future, and we remain committed to offering our customers not only a five star experience, but also the very latest in technology,” says SBD International airport director of aviation Mark Gibbs.

“We invite our customers to experience the convenience of StratosShare with the latest in zero emission technology,“ says Luxivair SBD manager Wendy Bechtel. “As with Luxivair SBD, the Mirai is futuristic, environmentally responsible and exclusive; there are only about 6,000 of these new vehicles in all of California, and Luxivair SBD is the first among the state's airports to offer pilots and flight crews access to this new vehicle.”
