Cutter Aviation makes internal directorial appointment
From sweeping hangar floors to pilot, army mechanic, tower operator and now director of technical and flight support services; one man's journey through the US aviation industry.
Cutter Aviation director of technical and flight support services David Clifton.

Cutter Aviation has promoted David Clifton to the position of director of technical and flight support services. In this new role he is responsible for supervising all aspects of Cutter Aviation's Part 145 repair stations in Phoenix, Arizona; in Addison and San Antonio, Texas; and in Denver, Colorado. He will also oversee Part 135 charter operations and the client relationship team.

From an early age, Clifton developed a passion for all things aviation. When he was 12 he took a job sweeping hangars just to be around aircraft. He then began to help mechanics with small tasks and washed aircraft between flights. A year later he was spending every weekend at the glider-port learning to fly sailplanes. He made his first solo flight at 14 and went on to obtain airplane SEL/MEL, gliders, hot air balloons, airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic ratings, and held a control tower operator card for ATC.

Following family tradition, Clifton proudly served in the US Army, first as a UH-1H (Huey) mechanic/crew chief then as an air traffic controller. After the military, he focused his career on aircraft maintenance, and has more than 30 years of experience as an A&P mechanic working on numerous airframes. He joined Cutter Aviation in 2005 as the director of maintenance for the charter department, having previously served as the director of maintenance for two other air carriers.
