Shell Aviation has strengthened its European network after starting operations as sole fuel provider at Lille airport. It was awarded the 10-year contract in September 2014 to operate the fuel storage facilities and into-plane services at the airport through its subsidiary, Avitair. In addition to Lille, one of France's busiest airports, Shell Aviation currently operates at eight airports in the country.

General manager for Europe Melanie Lane comments: “Through this agreement, customers will benefit from our world-class safety and operations as well as high quality Shell products. This is an important milestone for our business in Europe as we aim to expand at key locations with high growth potential such as Lille.”

The airport in northern France served more than 1.6 million passengers in 2013, making it the 11th largest airport in the country. Air traffic at this location grew by 18 per cent from 2012 to 2013.
