AirCell has developed an automated flight tracking system for users on the ground. In conjunction with Flight Explorer software and any one of AirCell’s Iridium based satcom systems, the position of the aircraft can be tracked in real time at
any altitude, and is not just for
those on IFR flight plans within ATC radar coverage.
With an AirCell satellite transceiver and tracking controller installed in the aircraft, the GPS position data is transmitted over
the Iridium satellite network at selected intervals.
The Flight Explorer software offers additional tracking features and functionality. Users on the ground can view their aircraft with weather overlays, generate alerts, and record events using Flight Explorer on any internet-enabled PC.
The system will be available for many fixed or rotary-wing aircraft and the availability of the system will be announced shortly.
This technology comes at a time when AirCell’s ST3100 Iridium satcom system has been certified to meet the highest level of vibration standard for helicopters. The company states that the vibration certification in Category U gives customers the confidence that the ST3100 will perform flawlessly in the rotorcraft environment. This Category U certification is in addition to its existing Category S certification for vibration.
AirCell claims the lightweight satcom system will provide a high-quality voice and low-speed data service and is available with a variety of cordless and corded handset styles and colours.
The system has the ability to interface with cockpit audio panels and is available with a cockpit dialer.
