Knaus Helicopters has expanded its EMS operations by adding a Eurocopter AS355N and an MD Explorer to its fleet.
The AS355N joins the AS350s and AS355s already in operation at the company. It was chosen for its familiarity, which makes it easier for pilot training, acquiring spare parts, and maintenance. Like the other Eurocopters, the new aircraft is fitted with an EMS interior, NVFR avionics, and MT EP II moving map GPS.
“In our opinion the Explorer is the best aircraft for this type of mission,” said Roy Knaus, md of Knaus Helicopters. “It has more room, less noise, and is a better performer.”
The MD900 has been equipped with the same NVFR avionics, moving map GPS and EMS technology as
the AS355N, as well as having
extra features planned for the future. “We are working with a UK company on installing a double hook system, that wasn’t supplied by the manufacturer, for alpine rescue missions,” said Knaus.
Based primarily at St. Johann in Pongau, in Austria, Knaus Helicopters has 20 pilots who are all trained
in-house. Its fleet of 12 aircraft includes Bell 205s, SA315Bs and MD520Ns, all of which are used for EMS, private charter, logging, training and aerial work.
According to the company,
Knaus could increase its fleet size
due to a slight increase in EMS operations in Austria.
