In commemoration of Kuwait Airways 50th Golden Jubilee anniversary, Gulfstream established a city-pair speed record between New York City and Kuwait City, with its newest ultra-long-range business jet, the Gulfstream G550. The route between these two cities is flown daily by Kuwait Airways.
The record-setting flight took place on January 16 and covered 5,757 nautical miles at an average ground speed of 527 knots.
The flight included personnel from both companies.
Gulfstream will provide all flight data to the NAA, which will officially record the flight within the category of ‘Speed Over a Recognised Course’.
In other news, the G550 has established its first official
distance record of 6,554 nautical miles on a December 5 flight
from Savannah, Georgia, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Also recorded as a city-pair speed record, this flight shattered the previous ground distance record of 6,132 nautical miles, set by a Gulfstream V in 1997.
The G550 gained two additional city speed records – one on December 11, between Dubai and Hong Kong and the other on December 14, from Beijing to White Plains, New York.
The NAA has officially recognised the distance record and the three city-pair records.
