Deutsche Rettungsflugwacht (DRF), which has been operating for 30 years, has flown its 275,000th rescue mission.
The anniversary mission was a repatriation – an ambulance aircraft crew flew a seriously injured German vacationer from Calvi/Corsica back to Germany.
Following a motorcycle accident, the vacationer was rescued by a French ambulance and taken to hospital. As he had been a sponsoring member of DRF for three years, he contacted the DRF alert centre in Filderstadt the next day.
After spending a few days in the Corsican hospital for medical reasons, the patient was fit for transportation. Within two hours flight time, he was flown from Corsica to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport, accompanied by a DRF physician and a paramedic.
An ambulance met the patient and transported him to a hospital in the Black Forest, close to his home town.
