Seawind executive express seaplane coming to Europe
Seawind Inc has launched a full Transport Canada and FAA part 23-certification programme for its 300C aircraft – a four to five place composite aircraft. The company says the Seawind is the first seaplane to be certified in over twenty years and the first fibreglass seaplane ever. It is being touted for use either as an executive express or as a family recreation aircraft.

It is being touted for use either as an executive express or as a family recreation aircraft.

Developed and refined over ten years, the Seawind’s design offers a top speed of 174 knots (200 mph 321 kph), a high-speed cruise of 166 kts (190 mph, 305 kph) and a maximum, no reserve range of 1,460 statute miles (2,350 kms).

Said a spokesman: “The 300C is an ingenious and innovative design.

It overcomes the heavy, slow and expensive reputation that amphibians have borne for nearly a century. It is, in our opinion, the amphibian aircraft for this century. High-speed stability is excellent and control at low speeds is superb. The standard flaperon system, coupled with slotted flaps and turn down wing tip sponsons, creates a ground effect that cushions touch down and speeds lift off.”

He added that with the 300C’s engine in the tail design, the engine/propeller noise is directed up and behind, making the five-seat cabin more comfortable.

While certification documentation and testing are expected to be completed by the middle of 2004, concurrent Transport Canada and FAA approval will speed up deliveries. The European JAA acceptance is expected to follow after these two acceptances.

Production of the Seawind 300C will be at the new Seawind facility located at Saint-Jean Airport, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada.

Deposits for initial production positions, with what is said to be an attractive introductory price, are being accepted now.
