Gulfstream will offer the BAe Systems AN/ALQ-204 Matador infrared countermeasure system (IRCM) from June 1 as an option on the G550 and G500. The FAA certification which authorises these installations will also authorise the passenger and aircraft protection system to be retrofitted onto the GV.
Developed to protect aircraft from ground and air-launched heat seeking missiles, the IRCM has been available as an option on both the G400 and G300 since their introduction.
First certified by the FAA for use on the GIV in 2000, the IRCM continues to be available as a retrofit for the GIV-series aircraft.
Gulfstream president Bill Boisture, said: “By offering the IRCM, we’ve further enhanced our customers' level of personal safety by providing an effective response to accidental or intentional missile assaults.”
