Jet Aviation Basel performed a skin
replacement on a Challenger 604
when the aircraft was hit by a
service truck on the airfield,
damaging the lower right-hand side
of the fuselage structure.
To prevent any movement of the
aircraft during the skin replacement,
technicians first manufactured and
installed shoring equipment,
according to Bombardier’s requirements.
The right-hand engine,
pylon and saddle tank structure
were disassembled before removing
the damaged skin and the new
custom-made skin panel was then
adapted, installed, riveted, sealed
and repainted.
Jet Aviation states that during the
skin replacement, the aircraft
underwent a 60-month maintenance
inspection, avionics mid-life
upgrades, a 3,200 hour check and a
hot-section inspection on both
engines. In addition, a new carpet was
installed and four seats upholstered.
