Bombardier has introduced the new Global Express XRS. High among improvements over its predecessor are increased range at high speed, improved takeoff capabilities and a fast refuelling technology.

Capable of 6,150 nautical miles at a cruise speed of Mach 0.85, the XRS is scheduled to enter service in

early 2006 with a list price of US$45.5 million for a typically configured aircraft.

Said a spokesman: “The addition of a forward fuel tank in the wing/body fairing, which adds 1,486 pounds of useable fuel, will help carry the XRS longer distances at higher speeds.

“New zero flaps takeoff capability will allow operators to depart from ‘hot and high’ airports at higher temperatures and with a greater fuel load.

“And the aircraft also features fast refuelling technology, made possible by software upgrades to the fuel computer along with some structural adjustments. We expect the refuelling process to be reduced by 15 minutes.”
