The UK’s Panshanger Airfield has installed a security system which uses the internet linked with CCTV cameras. Vaulted Image Technologies’ Dynamic Internet Security system protects strategic points around the airfield, including the runways, apron, fuel pump, hangars, club house and car park.
The company has discovered that airfields are suffering from a variety
of problems, from vandals cutting wing fabric with Stanley knives to draining fuel and setting fire to aircraft. Panshanger suffered similar problems and consequently
became the first airfield to install Vault-IT’s product.
The system uses GSM, telephone line or ADSL connections and if a CCTV system is already installed, the onsite Vault-IT integrates with the existing system. Customers are not required to have an on-site local area network or regular analogue phone connectivity. Technical sales director Don Chisholm said: “As most airfields do not have regular security patrols, this delivers peace of mind to airfield operators and insurers, because they can dial into their cameras any time, to verify the cameras are working and view live images.”
When motion is detected, images are uploaded to the Vault-IT servers for storage and later retrieval. The system can also be integrated with alarm systems to offer visual verification of alarm activation.
The images are normally stored for
28 days without the need for
human intervention. Once captured and stored on the server, images
can be viewed from anywhere on
the internet using a standard
web browser.
