Airports ready for Champions League final
Manchester Airport is gearing up for the busiest day in its history, when the city plays host to the UEFA Champions League Final which is being staged at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium on May 28th.

Manchester Airport is gearing up for the busiest day in its history, when the city plays host to the UEFA Champions League Final which is being staged at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium on May 28th.

It is anticipated that up to 60 business aircraft movements will head for the game over the period.

The airport will be giving priority to clearing the supporter flights after the game ends, with a restriction on other departures until the bulk of the backlog has been cleared.

Situated approximately 40 minutes drive away, Liverpool

John Lennon Airport (LJL) is also

an alternative choice for visiting aircraft.

Liverpool Aviation Services (LAS) operations director Wayne Barrett told EBAN: “LJL is a convenient alternative for hassle-free journeys and we are well placed to handle business aircraft flights in connection with the UEFA Cup Final.

“What’s more, the airport doesn’t impose any slot restrictions on business aircraft movements and LAS is able to provide customs, immigration and special branch clearance on-site at the Business Aviation Centre.”

Manchester’s general aviation airfield at Barton is anticipating

an influx of rotary visitors.

Speaking on behalf of air traffic control, Paul Tomlin says: “Our close proximity to the motorway network allows for quick and easy onward travel directly into the city centre

and also around the Greater Manchester region.

“Home to the Lancashire Aero Club, the UK’s oldest flying club founded in 1922, the grass aerodrome regularly hosts rotary movements on sports days throughout the season: Manchester United’s ground can be seen from the control tower, we are that close.”
