London City Airport has responded to the government’s consultation on the future of air transport in the south east by agreeing that doing nothing is not an option.
Richard Gooding, managing director said: “The government forecasts that London City will handle five million passengers per annum by 2030; we believe that we could well be handling more, within a somewhat shorter timetable.”
This expansion is also set to include business aviation. The airport says it can make a contribution to meeting future demand for this sector in the south east with the recent launch of the London City Airport Jet Centre. The new corporate aviation terminal houses vip lounges, dedicated vip aircraft stands, parking for up to 20 vehicles, Immigration and Customs clearance as well as crew and handling facilities.
The airport says that business aviation has relied to a large extent on access to other major airports,
but as those airports become busier and more congested each year, this level of access is declining, creating a gap in the air travel market for the provision of business or corporate aviation.
