The Rolls-Royce Turboméca RTM322-01/9 engine is on schedule for certification in the NH Industries NH90 multi-role helicopter following successful completion of its type test at the Rolls-Royce facility in Bristol. This is the first time that this civil type test, which includes a supplementary stage for ‘One Engine Inoperative’ operation, has been performed at Rolls-Royce.
The RTM322-01/9 is already certified on a number of military applications, but its civil certification demanded further proof of performance and demonstrable single-engine take-off capability.
It is said to be the lead engine for the NH90 programme, and to have been selected by 85 per cent of customers. Orders and options for the RTM322-powered NH90 currently total 260 aircraft, with stated customer requirements for 478 helicopters.
