Sino Swearingen’s SJ30-2 climbed to and levelled off at 49,000 feet on Saturday, November 10, confirming projected high altitude cruise and handling specifications. Sino says the ultra-high altitude of 49,000 feet exceeds all production airliners and virtually all the world’s production business twinjets.
Carroll Beeler, chief test pilot, hand flew production model S/N 0002 during the high altitude test. A former Navy fighter pilot, Carroll stated: “The aero performance profile was flown to 49,000 ft and we levelled at altitude. The handling was investigated and was found to be very solid.
“This aircraft has an exceptionally good wing and we were able to maintain various angles of bank up to 30 degrees through 180 degree turns without difficulty.”
Bob Kromer, manager of flight test operations, said: “With the SJ30-2 reaching 49,000 feet, we have now explored the complete normal operating envelope of the airplane.
“Along with our recent achievement of reaching .83 Mach, we have seen just what the SJ30-2 can do. You can fly fast, high and a long way in the SJ30-2.
“We can’t wait for customers to get their hands on this airplane. Virtually all other entry-level jets in the flight levels will be eating SJ30-2 wake turbulence as it speeds past and above them.”
Dr Carl Chen, president and ceo, added: “Fuel burn is an incredible 300 lbs per side or 45 gallons per hour. That is better than some propjects.
