Stratos Aeronautical and Honeywell have launched the first airborne satellite telephone service that provides business jet travellers with an unchanging, personal phone and fax number.
The service, called Mobile Connect, enables callers to use the same number to reach a traveller regardless of which corporate jet they happen to be flying in at the time.
“The Mobile Connect service may be particularly attractive to fractional aircraft owners who fly on a number of different aircraft,” said David Gilbert, OneLink business manager at Honeywell Aviation Information Services.
“We believe the concept of having one phone number in the air will appeal to the people whose companies operate more than one corporate jet,” added Gilbert.
Honeywell has successfully completed trials of the system and will be the first company to offer it. The service will utilise the Inmarsat satellite constellation and ground infrastructure.
